Etiquette of cottage living
Noise levels: Sound travels across water in ways it never does in the city. On a quiet morning or sultry dusk, normal voices can be heard a mile or more away. Take a moment after you are settled in to sit quietly on the dock, and hear the sounds of lakefront living. The call of a loon, slap of a beaver tail, hum of a water pump and laughter of children. The thrum of a motor as the sunset fisherman brings his boat into a dock. As you listen, bear in mind that the noises you make will be equally well heard across the water.
- Shouting, arguments and loud music will all be shared with neighbors. Most of closest neighbors are full time summer residents and are listening. Please help us keep the peace and respect that they are on vacation too and have a right to a quiet time.
Please keep noise levels down particularly when playing music outside. Outdoor noise must never be loud and cease or be kept to an absolute minimum after 8 pm.
- Respect for neighbors and their property and a description of the property boundaries; The house behind us has a 25’ strip of land on the north side of our property to gain access to his dock. If you are playing games in the side yard know that they will be walking through. Stay on the mowed lawn to the north. To the south, our lot line is only 10’ beyond sunroom porch. Don’t go beyond the kayak rack or leave the mowed grass.
- Campfire instructions, including the use of fireworks; burn only in provided fire ring. Use firewood provided along the garage. Feel free to scavenge for kindling to start fires. NO Fireworks are ALLOWED!
- Driving responsibly in cottage country – particularly on narrow cottage roads; Please drive slowly on Hemlock Harbor Lane. It is only a one lane road and you may meet another vehicle and have to back up. Do not use the neighbor’s black top driveway.
